Recommended Resources For Homeschooling

Welcome to the resources page for home educators.

Here we will share online classes, apps, resources and more that we are currently using and also what you can expect from each one.

1 – Learn, Laugh, Play.

Learn, Laugh, Play Website, this is an awesome resource for home schooling.

The website is run by a lady called Lisa and I found this purely by luck in a FB group.

Learn Laugh Play offers an exciting range of courses for ages 3 – 16, in the mornings (for home ed families) and the afternoons (for school children and home ed families).

What all the courses have in common, is a determination to build up children’s confidence as learners and a love of learning through offering them fun, interactive and creative online learning opportunities. The clubs help children to make fantastic progress, quite simply because they discover that learning is a fun and positive experience.

And it is incredible value too!

Each class costs just £2.50 and you don’t have to commit to months at a time. You can book just a single class or book a week of 4.

Also, the website is very easy to use, you can search via a child’s age, day, subject and even time.

2 – Night ZooKeeper.

Night Zookeeper, This is a great resources for home educators

This was one of the first things I subscribed to when we started on our home education journey and it is just awesome!!

How does it work?

Words – Fun, engaging games that increase vocabulary and improve spelling.

Sentences – Puzzles and challenges that develop grammar and structure skills

Stories – Inspiring prompts and story creation lessons that spark imaginations

My son started out creating animals in the night zoo and after he has done this, he then writes a story about the animal. The app prompts him and also asks questions about the animal so he actually enjoys his creative writing.

Once he has finished a story he earns gems, these can be used to buy lots of wonderful gifts for his creation.

Another great feature about this app is that he gets feedback from the Night Zookeeper team.

Night Zookeeper Feedback

Why We Love Night Zookeeper.

There are thousands of fun and engaging lessons, challenges, and games inside the website and app. Something my son really loves is the freedom to write about anything he wants to.

I love when he is creating a new animal and gets excited about the superpowers, foods the animal will eat, where it lives etc

In-game awards and competitions keep him motivated to continue to learn and progress at his own pace.

Night Zookeeper works across tablets, PC’s and laptops so we are not restricted to where we can be learning.

What I really love about this is the engagement and motivation it provides for my son.

Parents Dashboard.

When you join Night Zookeeper you will also be given access to a parent dashboard.

Inside the dashboard, you can easily monitor your child’s writing, achievements, and the feedback they are receiving from their tutor and community.

3- The Maths Factor.

The Maths Factor Review

The Maths Factor was set up by Carol Vorderman in 2010

In 2013 it was acquired by Pearson, the world’s leading education company, and in October 2014 it was re-launched, ready for tablets and ready for the new national curriculum.

What is The Maths Factor and how does it work?

The Maths Factor is an online maths tutoring site for 4-11-year-olds. The content is ordered to match the new 2014 national curriculum in England, but the site is used successfully by children all around the world.

In September 2014 a new curriculum was implemented in English schools, which introduced some entirely new topics into the primary curriculum, while requiring other topics to be taught to younger age groups.

Originally getting my son to try and do maths was a complete disaster, he would get very anxious and found it boring.

However, with The Maths Factor, he is growing in confidence each day.

In fact, just this morning, he got up and did a session on his own which is something I wouldn’t have believed 8 weeks ago.

Why We Love Maths Factor?

It is fun and short!

Not only are there many games available inside the app, but they also have a daily session that takes about 15-20 minutes.

Every session comes with a fun ‘warm up’, which gets children into gear with more light-hearted questions before the formal practice. Every session ends with your child earning rewards – new marbles and a sums counter that can only go up.

There are also printables, tower of achievements, challenges and lots more inside.

Inside the website, you can track your child’s progress, you can also see the last 7 days activity chart, the Last 10-course session scores and some other bits.

You can also get a breakdown of questions and answers. This includes what your child answered incorrectly the first time around and finally for each module you can print a certificate if you like. (There are many designs available)
